WHAT’S ON
Founded in 1989, Edinburgh University Footlights is a student-run musical theatre group that annually produces one of the largest scale productions of the University's theatrical calendar and a multi-talented showchoir. Over the years, Footlights has gone from strength to strength, with The Edinburgh Evening News dubbing the society "one of the most respected theatre groups in Britain". Each year, Footlights strives to achieve its core values of professionalism, being welcoming and providing a safe and enjoyable creative space for its members. In the words of The Edinburgh Guide, Footlights truly provides "professional productions at an amateur price". We aim to put on 3 yearly productions:
MAIN SHOW 2025/2026
We aim to put on a professional-level main show every February. This year’s main term was ‘Kiss Me, Kate’. Auditions for our next main term show will open in September - more details to come soon now open, and will close on Sunday 14th September at midday!
SHOWCHOIR 2025/2026
Showchoir is an exciting performance group that was formed in 2011.This year’s theme was ‘Talk it out’, and showcased Edinburgh’s comedic musical talent through a walk-in group sharing session! Auditions for our next showchoir will open in September!
EDINBURGH FRINGE 2026

FOOTWORK 2025/2026
FOOTWORK returns for its second year!!
FOOTWORK is Edinburgh Footlights’ new, non-audition workshop group that was formed at the start of the 2024/25 academic year, consisting of alternating singing and dancing workshops taking place weekly.
The sessions will start in September for any and all theatre-lovers who want to get involved with Footlights this year without the pressure of auditions or the time-commitment of our show rehearsal schedules, and for those of you in our shows keen for some extra Footlights Fun… We can’t wait to meet you all!
